Saturday, July 13 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Join us on July 13th from 6 to 7 p.m. for an unforgettable evening with The Yeli Ensemble, a group dedicated to preserving and sharing the rich cultural heritage of Guinea Conakry and the broader West African region.

About The Yeli Ensemble:

The Yeli Ensemble is named after the word ‘Yeli,’ also known as Griot in French. A Yeli is a ‘living archive’ of West African traditions, someone who has mastered their art form from a young age through learning from parents, community, and various masters.

Featuring:

  • Ibrahima Dioubat: A celebrated djembefola, Ibrahima is a master of the djembe, the ‘star’ of West African percussion. His expertise and passion bring the rhythms of Guinea Conakry to life.
  • Sekouna Conte: Born into the Yeli tradition, Sekouna is renowned for his skill on the Kora and also plays the n’goni (ancestor to the banjo), balafon, and other instruments. Sekouna now resides in Mexico City, where he performs and teaches percussion and dance.

The Yeli Ensemble is a collective that includes artists from West Africa and sometimes collaborates with local musicians. Their performances showcase the diverse and rich art forms of the African continent.
